The Duke of Sussex opened the Invictus Games 2023 on Saturday

Prince Harry teases ‘competition’ with Meghan Markle ahead of reunion

While he was on stage introducing the 2023 Invictus Games, Prince Harry found time to crack a little joke about his wife, Meghan Markle, in between moving remarks honoring each competitor.

The Duke of Sussex disclosed during his speech that a number of new countries had joined the Invictus Games since its last competition in 2022, which was held in The Hague following a two-year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There will likely be a little more “competition” between Harry and the Duchess now that Colombia, Israel, and Nigeria are competing in the Games, as Harry confirmed.

The Duke clarified, “Now, I’m not saying we play favorites in our home.” “But it’s going to get a little more competitive this year since my wife found out she is of Nigerian descent.”

Harry arrived in Germany on Friday, but Meghan is still at home in the United States with the couple’s two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and not at the Invictus Games. Harry and Meghan will meet later in the Games.

The Duke of Sussex was spotted leaving Düsseldorf International Airport, getting into a car, and being driven to his hotel, according to images acquired by MailOnline. His car was being videotaped by onlookers as it pulled into the underground parking lot.

After honoring his late grandmother, the Queen, on her death anniversary, Harry is said to have left Windsor and gone straight to the airport, where he boarded a British Airways flight.

During a speech at the Wellchild Awards on Thursday, he made another allusion to the Queen, saying, “As you know, I was unable to attend the awards last year due to the passing of my grandmother.” As you are undoubtedly aware, she would have been the first to insist that I continue to come and be with you all rather than going to her. For this reason, I am certain that, exactly one year later, she is watching over all of us tonight, happy that we are together, and continuing to highlight such a wonderful community.”

The father of two royal children has already shown that he is fully immersed in the Games, as evidenced by the photos he took with volunteers before the opening ceremony.

The Invictus Games social media team posted a photo of the Duke grinning broadly as he posed with the volunteers, stating that their job was to “conduct all assessments of the competitors at the #InvictusGames to facilitate fair competition in recovery.”

The tweet said, “This morning, the Duke of Sussex stopped by to meet with our global team of volunteer categorizers.” “To promote fair competition in recovery, this group, led by @weareinvictus, conducts all assessments of the competitors at the #InvictusGames.”

Harry and Meghan have a special place in their hearts for the Invictus Games because, in 2017, they publicly acknowledged their relationship by being photographed holding hands at the Games.
