For disclosing that his “beloved” daughter-in-law Princess Catherine is receiving cancer preventive treatment, King Charles is “so proud” of her.
His Majesty, who is also fighting an unidentified form of cancer, is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” according to a spokesman for Buckingham Palace.
We are aware that the King has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks” since their hospital stay together earlier this year. Charles and Catherine received treatment at The London Clinic.
“Will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time,” are Charles and Camilla’s words.
Princess Catherine announced earlier this week that she has begun her first round of preventative chemotherapy in a moving and intimate video message that was recorded in Windsor by BBC Studios.
Her condition was initially believed to be non-cancerous, and her January abdominal surgery had gone well.
But tests following the surgery revealed the presence of cancer.
The Princess started her letter by saying, “I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you for all of the wonderful messages of support and for your patience while I’ve been recovering from surgery.
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.”
“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said, reiterating that it has taken her some time to process the news and explain her diagnosis to her young children. It has taken some time, as you can imagine.
“I had to recover from a major surgery before I could begin my treatment. Above all, though, it has taken some time for us to reassure George, Charlotte, and Louis that everything will be alright and to explain everything to them in a way that suits them.
“As I have stated to them, by concentrating on the things that will support my recovery—in my mind, body, and spirit—I am well and growing stronger every day.
“Having William by my side also gives me a lot of assurance and comfort. As is the affection, encouragement, and kindness so many of you have shown. It is really important to us both.”
The Princess wrapped up her message by saying that she is concentrating on getting well and will go back to work as soon as she is able. “I implore everyone dealing with this illness, in whatever form, to hold onto their hope and faith. You’re not by yourself,” she said.
While this is going on, Charles is following his own treatment plan for an unidentified type of cancer that was found during a procedure on his enlarging prostate in January.
