The private London hospital where the Princess of Wales had her abdominal surgery in January is said to have experienced a security breach.
The London Clinic has opened an investigation following rumors that one or more employees attempted to obtain Catherine’s personal medical records.
“This is a major security breach and extremely damaging for the hospital, given its unblemished reputation for treating members of the Royal Family,” a hospital insider told The Mirror.
“As soon as the incident was brought to their attention, senior hospital administrators contacted Kensington Palace and promised a thorough investigation.
“The whole medical staff have been left utterly shocked and distraught over the allegations and were very hurt that a trusted colleague could have allegedly been responsible for such a breach of trust and ethics.”
One representative for Kensington Palace responded, saying, “This is a matter for The London Clinic.”
After her surgery on January 16, Catherine stayed in the private hospital for thirteen days. Although the Princess’s exact ailment is unknown, Kensington Palace previously stated that Catherine wanted her private medical records to be kept private and that the illness was unrelated to cancer.
In the same hospital as his daughter-in-law, King Charles received treatment for an enlarged prostate; both men were released on January 29.
The Duke and Duchess of York, as they were then known, officially opened the London Clinic in 1932. A group of Harley Street doctors came up with the idea for it when they decided to design a new nursing home according to the strictest medical guidelines available at the time.
The late Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Margaret, the younger sister of the late Queen, former US President John F. Kennedy, and actress Elizabeth Taylor are just a few of the well-known patients from the past.
The day after The Sun and TMZ released video of the Prince and Princess of Wales leaving the Windsor Farm Shop close to their home, Adelaide Cottage, comes news of the hospital security breach.
In the video, Catherine was seen talking with her husband, Prince William, while leaving the store with a big white bag in her hands. She was dressed in an Umbro hoodie and sports leggings.
Only twice since her surgery has the Princess been captured on camera, once while she was traveling to a private appointment in London while William attended the Westminster Abbey Commonwealth Day service.
After news outlets removed the Mother’s Day photo of the Princess and her kids after it was discovered to have been digitally altered, internet rumors and conspiracy theories about Catherine intensified. The royal later acknowledged that she had “edited” the photo and apologized for any “confusion” it may have caused.
It is anticipated that the Princess will resume her royal responsibilities following Easter.
