Harry established the Invictus Games in 2014; it is an athletic event for wounded or ill service members, whether they are veterans or active-duty personnel.

On September 9, the Games will start and last for eight days. The Duke will return to the UK before the opening ceremony to attend the Wellchild Awards on what will be the first anniversary of the death of his grandmother, the Queen.

Prior to the Awards, the father of two stated: “For more than 40 years, WellChild has transformed the lives of kids and teenagers all over the UK by providing vital care that puts the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of these people and their families first.

“These young people’s courage and strength, as well as the never-ending devotion of those who support them, never cease to inspire me. I feel honored to join in the celebration of their outstanding work at the awards ceremony this year.

The Duke will spend time with each winner and their families at a pre-ceremony reception, listening to their stories and helping to create lifelong memories. The Duke has attended the WellChild Awards on 11 previous occasions.

The Sussexes cherish their memories of the Invictus Games. Just two months before announcing their engagement, the couple decided to publicly acknowledge their relationship at the Toronto Games in 2017.

Meghan was seated about 18 seats away from her then-boyfriend Harry at the opening ceremony along with her mother Doria Ragland and friend Markus Anderson.

A few days later, the couple left the house holding hands to go to the wheelchair tennis match. The Sydney Olympics in 2019 fell during Harry and Meghan’s tour of Australia, which took place while the Duchess was expecting her first child, Prince Archie.

The tournament in the Hague, Netherlands, that was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but was delayed due to the global pandemic was also attended by Harry and Meghan in April 2022.

The Games will be held again from February 6 to February 17, 2025, with Vancouver, Canada, serving as the confirmed host city.
