While their kids are enjoying the summer break from school, the Prince and Princess of Wales are currently taking a break from their royal responsibilities.
In September of last year, when the Wales family moved to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, Prince George, then ten, Princess Charlotte, then eight, and Prince Louis, then five, began attending Lambrook School in Berkshire.
We are taking a closer look at where William and Catherine like to spend the school holidays with their family before they likely join King Charles and Queen Camilla at Balmoral as they host their first summer retreat.
Anmer Hall
Since the late Queen Elizabeth gave the newlyweds the ten-bedroom Georgian home after their wedding in 2011, William and Catherine’s Norfolk residence has served as their rural retreat.
The couple decided to remain in Norfolk during lockdown and continued to spend weekends and school breaks there, where they homeschooled their kids and performed their royal duties remotely.
Ski trip
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who enjoy skiing just like many other royals, have been taking their kids skiing on family vacations recently.
The Wales family took their eldest children skiing for the first time in the French Alps in 2016. George and Charlotte can be seen wearing snow suits in the couple’s adorable family photos from their vacation.
And the five-member family was reportedly spotted last Easter in Courchevel, France, while on a ski vacation.
Jordan
When the Kensington Palace 2021 Christmas card was released, it was revealed that William and Catherine had travelled to Jordan with George, Charlotte, and Louis.
The under-the-radar trip to Petra took place earlier that year when the family of five went there.
Catherine has fond memories of Jordan. When Catherine was only two years old, the Middleton family moved to the country. They even made a photo from their time there public.
During a Middle East tour in 2018, William spoke candidly about his wife’s youth in Jordan. William said to Rania Malki, the CEO of Save the Children, “She loved it here, she really did. She is extremely upset that I’m coming here alone.”
Mustique
The Prince and Princess of Wales have previously spent family vacations in Mustique with Carole and Michael Middleton, and Prince George is rumoured to have celebrated his sixth birthday there in 2019.
Princess Margaret, William’s late great-aunt, owned a villa on the island of Mustique called Les Jolies Eaux.
Isles of Scilly
William and Catherine have recently taken family vacations both domestically and abroad. The five-person family returned to the Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall in 2021 for a vacation.
In 2020, the family and their young children were spotted cycling around Tresco Island, the only privately-owned island out of the five that are inhabited.
With his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and his brother, Prince Harry, William spent a childhood vacation in Tresco in 1989.
Balmoral
Every year, during her summer vacation, the late Queen Elizabeth II welcomed her family to Balmoral Castle, including William, Catherine and their kids.
The late monarch was pictured with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in a heartwarming photo that the palace shared on what would have been the late monarch’s birthday in April.
Since they first met there at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland holds a special place in William and Catherine’s hearts.
According to reports, the couple resides at Tam-Na-Ghar, a home they own on the Balmoral estate.
Just before she passed away in 2002, William’s great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, gave him the land, which is close to the King’s home, Birkhall.
