The Duchess of Sussex is a fan of the year-round sunshine and timeless luxury of celebrity-favourite St. Barths

Meghan Markle’s go-to ultra-luxury solo trip pre-Prince Harry

The Duchess of Sussex is no stranger to lavish travel; during her pre-royal years, she frequently travelled by private jet to opulent islands and glamorous cities. After her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, she joined him on royal tours.

As Meghan’s husband Prince Harry arrives in Tokyo this week without her, HELLO! looks closer at the former Suits actress’ favourite travel destinations and speculates on where she might go on a summer solo girls’ trip.

Meghan wrote about her trips to St Barths on The Tig

In her former lifestyle blog, The Tig, the mother of two previously revealed her preferred location for a girls’ getaway, and it looks every bit as dreamy as it sounds. The French-speaking Caribbean island of Saint Barthelemy, also known as St. Barths, was the setting for some of Meghan’s writings.

According to Business Insider, St. Barths has become a popular travel destination due to its abundance of gorgeous beaches, high-end yachts, designer shops, and mouthwatering restaurants. But the Duchess was drawn to it for more reasons than just its opulence.

The mother of two adores the island’s white sands and “Francophile sensibility that is just as island-esque as it is chic, quiet beaches, authentic creole food, and a place where strolls down cobblestone streets and visits to French pharmacies rival those found in Paris.”

Meghan even said in a letter that she likes to travel more subtly, “with a healthy dose of swanky goodness peppered throughout,” of course.

According to Meghan, who described herself as a “mermaid [her] friends could not drag out of the sea,” Grand Saline Beach is the ideal location for crystal clear waters and unmatched island vibes.

The best thing about Saline, according to Meghan, a self-described foodie, is probably the proximity to Le Grain de Sel, an authentic Caribbean restaurant serving up traditional creole dishes. Don’t miss this culinary treasure, where each bite transports you just as much as the trip does.

Without a doubt, St. Barths is still a very upscale location, but with a little searching, you can escape the posh crowd or plunge right in. Whatever your preference, this island seems to have it all.
