Prince Harry reveals trip to Singapore and Japan with long-time friend

It has been announced that the Duke of Sussex will visit Asia in August.

The 38-year-old Prince Harry will compete in the annual Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup on August 12 at the Singapore Polo Club.

He will compete for the Royal Salute Sentebale Team against Nacho Figueras, the charity’s ambassador and a longtime friend of his.

In a statement, Harry said: “Sentebale’s vital work to ensure children and young people are healthy, resilient, and able to thrive is made possible in large part by the annual Polo Cup. The money raised this year will go toward our Clubs and Camps program, which offers young people living with HIV intensive psychosocial support.

We are empowering young people to know their status, maintain their health, and end stigma so they can break the cycle in an era where having HIV is no longer a death sentence.

We are excited to play at the prestigious Singapore Polo Club again in August and, as always, are incredibly appreciative of the polo community and our sponsors, especially ISPS Handa, for their ongoing support of the youth of Lesotho and Botswana.

Harry and Nacho will take part in a summit on the influence of sport, community, and philanthropy at the ISPS Sports Values Summit-Special Edition in Tokyo, Japan on August 9 before departing for Singapore.

Former New Zealand All Blacks player and ISPS Handa Ambassador Dan Carter, Sentebale Chair Sophie Chandauka MBE, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of South Africa’s Stellenbosch University Professor Wim de Villiers, and former member of the Royal Australian Navy and gold medalist from the Invictus Games Steve James will also be present.

“ISPS Handa are delighted to be partnering with Sentebale this August on the special edition of ISPS Sports Values Summit in Tokyo and the annual Polo Cup in Singapore,” said Dr. Haruhisa Handa, the organization’s founder. We believe we can use the power of sport to empower and assist those who are most in need. Our respective organizations share this responsibility.

“Support for Sentebale makes possible its core areas of work, including strengthening the social and emotional wellbeing of those living with or affected by HIV; collaborating with communities to increase young people’s access to health and social services; fostering youth advocacy to enhance health, education, and social protection; and developing people’s skills and livelihoods so they are more resilient, self-assured, and empowered members of their communities.”

The presence of Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, on his travels is unknown.

Harry celebrated his victory at the annual Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup in Aspen, Colorado, the previous year.

What is Sentebale?

In response to the needs of children and youth in Lesotho, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso founded the charity in 2006. The name, which in Sesotho means “forget-me-not,” stands for a commitment to remember the most defenseless kids in the area.

By ensuring they have access to essential health services, receive care and support, and develop the skills to be more resilient and self-sufficient, Sentebale aims to reach children and young people affected by poverty, inequality, and HIV/AIDS throughout Lesotho and Botswana. All children and young people in southern Africa will be empowered, healthy, resilient, and able to thrive, according to Sentebale’s vision.
