On Saturday, July 22, the Prince and Princess of Wales celebrated Prince George’s tenth birthday; however, Catherine unexpectedly broke with family custom.
A new image of a beaming George sitting on the steps of Windsor Castle was released by the royal couple. The Prince wore an adorable outfit resembling that of father William: a checked blue and white shirt, teal jeans, and boots.
However, Millie Pilkington, a photographer, took the birthday portraits in place of Catherine, who had previously started the tradition in 2015 when she took Princess Charlotte’s first official pictures.
On special days like birthdays and the start of school, Princess Catherine frequently posts pictures of her kids. But she has asked Millie to take pictures of her kids twice in recent months.
In addition to taking the official portrait of Prince Louis for his fifth birthday in April, Millie also took the picture of George earlier this month.
Before she became a member of the royal family, Catherine was an avid photographer. She mentions her love of photography in her official profile on the website of the British monarchy. Because she studied art history at St. Andrews University, the Princess of Wales has a long-standing interest in photography, design, and textiles.
Several arts organizations, including the National Portrait Gallery, the V&A, and the Royal Photographic Society, are patronized by Her Royal Highness. The Princess is an enthusiastic photographer who has exposed the public to many of her images over the years. She contributed two potent photographic portraits of Holocaust survivors and their families to a special photography project commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Holocaust’s end in January 2020.
According to the statement, “In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in May 2020 Her Royal Highness created Hold Still, a photography project launched in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, which invited members of the public to share photographic portraits they had taken during lockdown, providing a unique record of the nation’s shared and individual experiences as the pandemic took hold.”
During George’s special day, which will reportedly be commemorated with a small gathering at the Waleses’ Windsor residence, Catherine will undoubtedly still take her own pictures. Together with his parents and younger siblings, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, George is currently taking advantage of the summer break from school.
When the young royals return to school in September, the Prince will be entering Year Six at Lambrook School in Berkshire.
George has had a truly remarkable year. The youngster moved up the line of succession and had his family name changed after last summer’s house and school move. This was in response to the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
George is second in line to the throne after William, who is now the heir apparent, and the former Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who are now known as the Prince and Princess of Wales.
William and Catherine are gradually acclimating their oldest child to his upcoming public persona. At competitions like Wimbledon, the Ashes, and Euro 2020, George has recently made his debut. When he was chosen to be one of his grandfather King Charles’s Pages of Honor at the coronation back in May, he played his first significant independent role.
