Prior to the women’s singles final on Saturday, Princess Catherine arrived at Wimbledon beaming.
The 13th day of the yearly competition was the ideal occasion for her stunning pastel green Self Portrait dress. Catherine added a special Wimbledon bow as an accessory to the summer dress. She wore her long, brunette hair in a flawless girls’ style that was swept back at the front.
Catherine is a huge tennis fan and serves as the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She will undoubtedly be anticipating watching the match between Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic and Ons Jabeur of Tunisia at 2pm from the comfort of the Royal Box on Centre Court.
Unsurprisingly, Catherine joined tennis great Billie Jean King in the royal box to watch the championship game. She arrived an hour before the game began and met Tiffany, 14, and Abhi, 17, two young ball boys and girls.
The royal also met with representatives from the London Fire Brigade, the Metropolitan Police, the British Army, and the London Ambulance Service. She talked to them while remembering her own childhood Wimbledon experiences. “When I was younger, I adored it. It was a part of the excitement of going to see Wimbledon” – she said.
Catherine witnessed tournament history as Marketa Vondrousova defeated Ons Jabeur in the women’s singles final to become the first unseeded player to win the title. After the player, who was born in Tunisia, started crying, Catherine comforted her by giving her a hug and gently rubbing her arm.
Ons described the incident and remarked, “Obviously she was very nice. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hug me or not. I informed her that I always enjoy giving hugs. She’s always kind to me, so that was a really nice moment.”
In addition to congratulating Marketa on her victory, The Princess of Wales also told the Czech-born athlete to “enjoy this moment” as she gave her the trophy.
The Princess has been present at the tournament twice this year; the first time was last week on day two of the competition. She chose a similar color scheme, donning a white dress with pleats and a mint green blazer as part of a pastel green and white ensemble. The Princess wore a striking white jacket with sparkling white lapels and white buttons. Catherine completed her Wimbledon-inspired ensemble with a tiny white bag.
