Prince Harry reveals what he and Meghan really thought about Frogmore Cottage

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have formally left Frogmore Cottage, according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace earlier this week.

A representative for Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, previously acknowledged that the couple had been asked to vacate the Grade-II listed home.

After stepping down as senior royals in 2020, the Sussexes relocated to the US, but up until this point, they had maintained Frogmore Cottage as their base in the UK. Harry is thought to have spent his three visits to Windsor at the home, but it’s unclear where he, Meghan, and their two children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, will stay in the future.

Harry’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, gave the Duke and Duchess the four-bedroom home on the Frogmore estate in Windsor. Just a few weeks prior to the birth of their son Archie in May 2019, the couple moved in.

In his memoir Spare, which was released in January, Harry wrote about the couple’s reaction to the relocation.

Meg and I relocated to Buckingham Palace for our office. We also relocated to a new residence. Frogmore was equipped. We adored that location. starting in the first minute. We had the impression that we were meant to reside there, he said. We were eager to get up in the morning, take a long stroll through the gardens, and visit the swans. Steve is especially grumpy. We got to know the names of the Queen’s gardeners and all the flowers when we met them. They were overjoyed by our admiration and praise of their artistic abilities.

The moment the couple packed up their belongings as they prepared to move to the US was also captured in Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries, which was released in December. For them, it seemed to be a bittersweet moment.

The Sussexes had some precious memories associated with Frogmore Cottage. The home is close to Frogmore House, where Harry and Meghan partied all night long in May 2018 at their wedding reception.

They brought their son, Archie, home for the first time from the Portland Hospital in London, where he was born on May 6, 2019, and raised him there for the first time.

Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021, in Santa Barbara, California, but when Harry and Meghan visited the UK for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last summer, they celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage.
