Following the tragic passing of Clare Drakeford, the wife of Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted an emotional message.
Political and public figures have been contacting the Welsh politician to express their condolences after Clare passed away suddenly on Saturday. Mark Drakeford and his family are in our thoughts and prayers, William and Catherine wrote in their heartfelt tribute. Their signature read “W & C,” their initials.
In response to the message, many of their supporters expressed their sorrow for Mark.
When Clare Drakeford, the wife of the first minister, passed away suddenly, a spokesperson for the Welsh government said: “It is with deep sadness that we confirm her passing.
“The Welsh government’s thoughts are with the family at this difficult time, and we ask that their privacy be respected,” the statement reads.
In 1977, Mark and Clare got married. They have three kids together.
The Welsh Labour leader frequently kept his private life out of the public eye, but in 2020 he admitted he had been severing ties with both her and his elderly mother while they sought refuge from the coronavirus pandemic.
She was allowed to keep the main family house, but Mark revealed that he was residing in a different structure in their garden.
Following Clare’s passing, other public figures shared their sorrow on social media. For example, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon wrote on Twitter: “My thoughts are with Mark and his family at this terribly sad time. When I met Clare, it was clear how strongly they were connected, and I can only imagine the magnitude of Mark’s sorrow. I’m sending him love and courage.
The Welsh Conservatives’ leader, Andrew RT Davies, continued, “At this extraordinarily trying time, my thoughts and prayers are with Mark Drakeford and his family. When I did meet Clare, she was always a lovely woman and was very hospitable. Hearing of her passing has shocked and saddened me greatly.”
