Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana, children of Prince Harry, both have his distinctive red hair!
The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex promoted his memoir Spare on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, the day of its worldwide release. In his interview with the host, Harry discussed writing as a “cathartic” process, his time serving in Afghanistan, the public’s fascination with the royal family, and what his late mother, Princess Diana, would think of all of it today. Prince Harry also made light of the fact that his two young children, whom he has with Meghan Markle, have his trademark red hair.
Colbert, 58, concluded the segment by displaying Harry and Meghan’s Christmas card from 2021, which featured their first-ever public portrait as a four-person family.
“Another lovely family photo is shown here. Your wife, Meghan, of course, but also your son, Archie, and daughter, Lilibet. She gave the name Lilibet to your daughter, “Colbert made the comment in reference to Queen Elizabeth II, Harry’s grandmother. “Having kids makes it easier for us to remember our lost loved ones. Do any of your kids remind you of your mother or your grandparents?”
“Undoubtedly my mother. The ginger gene runs deep!” As the studio audience laughed, Prince Harry made a joke.
“Check that out. They’re both redheads “said the host.
Harry chimed in, referring to his maternal side of the family, “The Spencer gene is very, very strong.” I genuinely believed at the beginning of my relationship with Meghan that should it last and we have children, the ginger gene would not be able to compete with my wife’s genes, but I was wrong!
He concluded, “Go gingers.”
It’s a little-known fact that Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, Princess Diana’s three siblings, all have naturally red hair. In the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which debuted in December, Harry made fun of his hair color while remembering the beginning of his relationship with his wife.
“My family was very impressed when we first met her, I recall. Uncertain of what to do with themselves, some of them “After the two recounted the tale of Meghan’s first encounter with Queen Elizabeth, Harry said. “I believe they were taken aback. Perhaps you were surprised that a ginger could find such a lovely and intelligent woman.”

According to Harry, who speaks to PEOPLE, “I know that I want to live my life in service of others and that I want to live by example for my kids.”
