In his new book, Spare, the Duke of Sussex has revealed some closely-guarded royal secrets, including going into detail about the disagreements that occurred behind the scenes at his wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.
We imagine that Harry and Meghan spent months meticulously planning every aspect of their special day, but, according to Harry, the Prince and Princess of Wales disregarded his requests at their wedding reception.
The Duke and Duchess celebrated their marriage at St. George’s Chapel before attending a luncheon reception at Windsor Castle that was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The newlyweds decided to incorporate an American tradition and asked couples to sit together at the sit-down meal, where guests dined on pea and mint risotto and ten-hour slow-roasted Windsor pork belly.
However, Harry claims that his brother and sister-in-law changed the place cards at the last minute to ensure spouses were seated separately – something the Prince and Princess denied. William and Kate’s table was the only one that did not follow suit.
Harry acknowledged that he did not enjoy being forced to sit on the opposite side of the table from his then-girlfriend Meghan at Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton’s wedding to James Matthews in 2017. Brides and grooms frequently ask couples to sit separately in order to encourage guests to mingle.
In Harry’s book, William accuses him of moving seats at Pippa’s wedding to suit his own agenda. However, he maintains that while he would have preferred to spend more time with Meghan, who reportedly flew from the US to the UK to attend the celebration, he respected Pippa’s wishes and was compelled to view her through a large flower arrangement.
Prince Kate was seen smiling and chatting with guests at St. George’s Hall in a black-and-white image from Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series. The image shows Princess Kate recycling her Alexander McQueen coat dress in a very subtle primrose yellow.
Along with the newlyweds cutting their wedding cake with a ceremonial sword, an emotional moment during Prince Harry’s wedding speech was also captured on camera.
