One of the many surprises in Prince Harry’s sensational interview with Tom Bradby on Sunday night’s ITV was the father-of-assertion two’s that he has never accused the royal family of racism and that he does not believe they are racist.
Harry and Meghan were widely perceived as implying that some within the institution were racist following their interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, in which they claimed that a member of the royal family had asked Harry what color their baby was likely to be.
But in his most recent conversation, Harry claimed that impression was made by the media rather than by he and his wife.
Tom Bradby began by saying: “You claimed that members of your family were racist in the Oprah interview, to which Harry retorted, “No, I didn’t… According to the British press, “.
He continued by pressing his interviewer: “Did Meghan ever bring up the fact that they’re racist?” Tom answered, “She said there were disturbing remarks about Archie’s skin tone.
Harry verified: “Regarding his skin tone, there was concern. Tom then inquired, “Right. Do you consider that to be essentially racist?”
Harry responded, “I wouldn’t, not having lived within that family.
He went on: “Coming back to the distinction between racism and unconscious bias, I know from my own experience that the two are distinct from one another.
“However, once it has been acknowledged or brought to your attention that you, either as an individual or as a group, have unconscious bias, you have the chance to grow from it and become a part of the solution rather than the problem.
If this is the case, unconscious bias becomes a form of racism. Then, as in the earlier interview, Harry reaffirmed that he wouldn’t be disclosing who had made the remarks about the skin tone of his future children.
