Over the years, the Princess of Wales has shared her favorite snacks, some of which will surprise you.
Senior royals from other families also appear to have some unusual eating habits. Princess Anne enjoys smoked kippers for breakfast, whereas the Queen used to enjoy eating bananas with a knife and fork.
Princess Catherine obviously enjoys baking traditional cakes and loaves because she is a huge Mary Berry fan. The Princess of Wales does, however, like a few more daring choices. Here are some of the Princess’ strangest customs that she has shared with her children…
Pregnancy cravings
Even though many expectant mothers crave contentious foods, it’s always fascinating to peek inside a royal’s diet! Catherine reportedly loved eating vegetarian curry made by her neighbourhood restaurant in Upper Bucklebury, Berkshire, while she was expecting Prince George.
Even her husband Prince William can’t stand the heat, but the royal still enjoys spicy foods!
Snacking on olives
It seems like Catherine has always eaten a healthy diet, even when she was young, instead of the typical sweet treats many kids tend to prefer! In 2018, she told a four-year-old patient during a visit at Great Ormond Street Hospital, “I used to eat lots and lots of olives when I was little too.”
Princess Charlotte has already started to emulate her mother. In 2019, Catherine revealed that her daughter also enjoys snacking on olives, according to Daily Mail.
Green juice
Even celebrities like the Princess of Wales regularly consume green juice, proving that it is not an uncommon food. Although apples, kale, and spinach are all standard components in a green juice, Catherine’s preferred combination is much more varied.
The Princess reportedly mixes kale, spirulina (a type of algae), matcha (green tea leaves), spinach, romaine, cilantro (coriander leaves), and blueberries for a nutritious breakfast beverage, according to the Mail Online. The reason the royal appears so radiant is obvious.
Watermelon salad
Catherine was a seasoned traveler long before she joined the royal family. Her taste buds are a reflection of the various cuisines she experienced during a summer spent working on boats in the Mediterranean.
Watermelon salads, which typically combine chunks of watermelon with avocado, red onion, cucumber, and feta cheese for the ideal balance of sweet and savory flavors, are said to be a favorite of her.
Papaya
Catherine admitted that she enjoys papaya as a snack. The royal provided some information about her eating habits and those of her children back when she was touring the LEYF (London Early Years Foundation) Stockwell Gardens Nursery and Pre-school in London in January 2020.
As she gave the kids their breakfast, she spoke about the food she likes to eat at home.
Michelle Samuels, the school’s manager, said to today.com: “She told a youngster who was hesitant to try some papaya that she liked it. The youngster then tried some papaya.”
Catherine also disclosed that Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte eat cereal and apples for breakfast. She told three of the kids that her own kids like cereal and apples in the morning, which sparked a discussion with the kids about their own favorite fruits, Michelle continued.
Experimenting with food
During their royal tour of Canada, Catherine and William, who are never afraid to try new foods, tucked into a very unusual treat, and the mother-of-three appeared to enjoy it!
The royal couple sampled wild geoduck sashimi that had been thinly sliced and topped with a miso mustard sauce. “There is a slightly firmer texture to this,” Kate said of the large clam. “It’s really unusual. I’ve never seen it before. It’s so fresh from the sea.” Given how much she enjoys sushi, we are curious if she has thought about attempting to make it at home.
Birthday cake tradition
Catherine and her kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, enjoy cooking together. However, it appears that she stays up very late on their birthdays to bake them a cake, as is her custom.
Catherine said to Mary Berry in A Berry Royal Christmas: “I love making the cake. It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ’til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.” We’re surprised the Princess hasn’t changed her tradition to be a little earlier since she has three kids who probably wake up very early on their birthday mornings!
