Following the Sun’s apology over Jeremy Clarkson’s contentious column about the Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have responded.
The royal couple, on the other hand, were not feeling forgiving, and a spokeswoman for them labeled the apology “nothing more than a PR stunt.” The newspaper replaced a link to the original column with a tweet to Jeremy’s apology and stated on their website: “We at The Sun regret the publication of this article and we are sincerely sorry.”
When the article was first released last week, it was roundly criticized and referred to as “misogynistic.”
The former Top Gear host wrote in the column that he “hates” the Duchess of Sussex and that everyone in his age group feels the same way.
After receiving a record 17,500 complaints, the article quickly rose to the top of IPSO’s list of frequently complained-about articles, prompting Jeremy to ask that it be taken down.
In a statement posted to Instagram, the star’s daughter Emily spoke out against her father, saying: “Regarding misogyny, bullying, and how the media portrays women, my opinions are and have always been crystal clear.
“I want to be crystal clear that I reject everything my dad said about Meghan Markle and I continue to stand in support of those who are the target of online hatred,” she said.
On his Twitter page, Jeremy expressed his own regret for the column and stated the following: “I’m sorry. I’ve kind of stepped on it. I made a crude allusion to a Game of Thrones scene in a column I wrote about Meghan, and this offended a lot of people.
