King Charles has bestowed an extraordinary gift on his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales.
It is well known that the two get along well. Prince William, Catherine, and their three children are anticipated to spend Christmas with the King at the Sandringham estate due to their well-documented closeness.
But before that, the monarch has given Catherine something that is genuinely special. Catherine is now the Colonel of the Irish Guards, replacing her husband Prince William, thanks to Charles, who gave her her first military position.
Instead, the Prince of Wales will take on the King’s former position as Colonel of the Welsh Guards.
While this is going on, the Queen Consort has assumed command of the Grenadier Guards. The Duke of York formerly filled this position, which has been vacant since his royal titles were removed in January 2022.
The modifications were made public by Buckingham Palace in advance of Trooping the Colour, which will mark the official birthday of the British Sovereign for the first time in more than 250 years.
Six weeks after King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday, May 6, the King’s Birthday Parade—first of Charles’s as king—will be held on June 17.
It follows the revelation that the King will break with a Christmas custom started by his late mother, the Queen, this year.
In the past, the Queen would spend the time during Christmas and until February at Sandringham.
She had the opportunity to quietly remember her beloved late father, King George VI, who passed away at the age of just 56 on February 6, 1952, the day she ascended to the throne, in the estate’s main house.
King Charles, on the other hand, is rumored to be traveling with wife Camilla to their Scottish estate, Birkhall. The King will go there at the start of the new year and stay there for a while.
