According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the Princess of Wales has taken over her husband’s position as Colonel of the Irish Guards.
The Palace also announced that King Charles’ birthday parade, known as Trooping the Colour, will take place on June 17 in London, which coincides with Catherine’s new appointment.
Three members of the royal family, including Queen Consort Camilla as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, have been appointed as Colonels within the Foot Guards, according to Buckingham Palace.
The Duke of York formerly filled this position, which has been vacant since his royal titles were removed in January 2022.
In the meantime, the Prince of Wales will succeed his father as Colonel of the Welsh Guards.
Next June, the display will feature King Charles and Prince William riding on horses while other members of the royal family, such as Camilla and Catherine, will watch from carriages and the Buckingham Palace balcony.
The current Colonelcies of the other regiments in the Household Division won’t change, according to Buckingham Palace. The Duke of Kent is the Colonel of the Scots Guards, while the Princess Royal continues to serve as Colonel of the Blue and Royals.
Trooping the Color will take place six weeks after King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday, May 6.
Since it began more than 260 years ago, the massive celebration has served as a way to commemorate the monarch’s birthday. More than 1,400 soldiers will be parading, along with 200 horses and 400 musicians, in a show of military prowess, horsemanship, and fanfare.
The parade moves from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade before concluding with a fly-past by the Royal Air Force.
