At a gala for the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights organization on Tuesday night in New York, Meghan Markle received the Ripple of Hope Award alongside husband Prince Harry.
The former Suits star wore a custom Louis Vuitton column dress with a bardot neckline, long sleeves, and folded detailing on the waist, and she looked stunning.
She finished off her ensemble with matching Givenchy accessories, gold earrings, and black pointed heels. She also made the decision to don a stunning ring that once belonged to Princess Diana.
The Asprey Aquamarine ring has significant symbolic and sentimental value. The eye-catching cocktail ring is made of 24-carat yellow gold and set with an emerald-cut aquamarine and two tiny solitaire diamonds on either side.
The diamond experts at Steven Stone put the sparkler’s value at about £85,000.
Says Maxwell Stone “One of the gemstones with the most stunning visual appeal is aquamarine. The ring was the ideal finishing touch to Meghan’s Ripple of Hope Gala ensemble and carries a lot of sentimental value because it not only belonged to Meghan’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, but also because the Duchess wore it as her “something blue” on her wedding day in 2018.
“It’s interesting to learn that the light blue color of the Aquamarine, which was given to Meghan Markle by Harry, represents emotions of sympathy, trust, and friendship — particularly in light of the couple’s upcoming Netflix docuseries, which debuts tomorrow.
“While there’s no doubt that the ring is priceless, if it were for sale, it would be worth about £85,000.”
The ring has a touching backstory as well. The stunning aquamarine was given to Princess Diana by her friend Lucia Flecha de Lima, and Asprey made it into a ring in 1996.
Tragically, the Princess only twice wore the ring before she tragically passed away in 1997.
Lucia also passed away in April 2017—about 20 years later. She was a close friend of Diana’s in the early 1990s and the wife of a former Brazilian ambassador to the UK. She and her husband even traveled to Brazil in 1991 with the then-Prince Charles and Diana.
At the age of 76, Lucia passed away from womb cancer in her Brazilian home.
