Veterans Day is observed annually in the US on November 11; at the same time, Remembrance Day is observed in the UK. Veterans Day, which began at the end of World War I, is a federal holiday in America that honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
As stated in their out-of-office email, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have ensured that their business, Archewell, honors both British and American customs by designating the federal holiday as a day to observe both Veterans Day and Remembrance Day.
The message states, “In observance of Veteran’s Day and Remembrance Day, our office is closed Friday, November 11.”
The two are anticipated to make a big deal out of the day. The couple has previously gone above and beyond to pay tribute to the millions of veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving in the armed forces.
As a former British Army Captain, Prince Harry understands the importance of the Rememberance Day holiday. The Duke served in the military for ten years, serving twice in Afghanistan’s front lines.
The two traveled specially to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey last year to honor Veteran’s Day. In addition to hosting a luncheon for service members and their spouses, Meghan and Harry met with military personnel from all six branches during their visit.
The couple talked about the value of community, the significance of mental health, and military life. Prince Harry, a former soldier in the British army, later spoke out about how lonely returning servicemen and women can feel.
I will always be grateful for the people I got to serve with, no matter where in the world we were, because my time in the military helped shape who I am today, he said.
“However, in a war you also witness and go through things you wish no one else had to… These sometimes stick with us like a slideshow of pictures.”
Additionally, in 2021, Meghan and Harry appeared on the red carpet for the Intrepid Museum’s Salute to Freedom gala in New York. Five service members, veterans, and military families “living with the invisible wounds of war” received the first Intrepid Valor Awards from The Duke.
Prince Harry made an emotional speech at the event. “My hope is that we will all continue to support the welfare of our troops, veterans, and the entire military and service family as we honor and reflect on Remembrance Day in the UK, which falls on the same day as Veterans Day in the US tomorrow. It has improved both us and them, he claimed.
The Duchess of Sussex shared a social media post about Veterans Day in November 2019 to honor US servicepeople. The mother-of-one was seen visiting US troops before she became a member of the royal family in one of the photos that was posted to Prince Harry and Meghan’s official Instagram account.
The description stated: “In the US, today is Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, days set aside to honor those who bravely served in the armed forces. We appreciate your dedication, service, and sacrifice. This week was crucial for honoring those who serve (or have served), as well as their families.”
The post went on to say: “With the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, The (now) Duchess of Sussex proudly visited troops in five nations in 2014: Spain, Italy, Turkey, Afghanistan, and the United Kingdom.
“The Duchess met with service members and their families while on this tour, and she was honored to acknowledge their service to the nation. I have always had such a profound respect for our country’s troops and military families, The Duchess said at the time. #VeteransDay #RemembranceDay “I can’t thank them enough for everything they do for us.””
