The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have revealed some fascinating details regarding their private engagement at their residence in Kensington Palace, Nottingham Cottage, including Meghan’s unexpected response.
The couple acknowledged that when Harry proposed to his then-girlfriend, they were having a typical, cozy evening at home roasting a chicken. But Meghan interrupted the royal before even letting him finish his thought.

During their joint engagement interview with the BBC in 2017, when asked if she immediately said “yes,” she replied: “Yes! In fact, I could hardly wait for you to finish asking; I said, “Can I say yes now?”
Harry said, revealing she was so happy she forgot about the sentimental trilogy ring he had made especially for her, “She didn’t even let me finish!” Then there were hugs and I gave her the ring. She responded, “Oh yes, the ring!” It was a really sweet moment where it was just the two of us, and I believe I managed to catch her off guard.
He gave her a special diamond from Botswana, where the two had vacationed, flanked by diamonds belonging to his late mother, Princess Diana.
The exchange was “so sweet and natural and very romantic,” according to Meghan.

But they also talked about Harry’s “frank conversations” with Meghan before he proposed, in which he warned her about the gravity of joining the royal family.
The devoted mother-of-two spoke of the intense media attention on her relationship: “I think I can very safely say, as naive as it sounds now, having gone through this learning curve in the past year and a half, I did not have any understanding of just what it would be like. I don’t think either of us did, though.”

But I think both of us were completely taken aback by the response after the first five or six months that we had to ourselves, of what actually happened from then, Harry continued.
We were completely unprepared for what happened after that, despite having as many conversations as we wanted and making as much preparation as we could.
