When the Queen passed away on September 8, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were in the UK getting ready for the WellChild awards.
The Duchess of Sussex later traveled back to the US to be with her family, and in a recent interview with Variety, she talked openly about how the family dealt with the death of their loved one. She also expressed her satisfaction at having been able to “support” Harry through the difficult time. The royal couple was spotted holding hands during a service in Westminster Hall.
She acknowledged the Duke’s comment that “Now she’s reunited with her husband” and praised her husband’s optimism in spite of her own feelings at the time.
Her Majesty was reunited with the late Prince Philip in 2021 when they were laid to rest side by side in the King George VI memorial chapel. The Queen lost her husband Prince Philip in 2021.
As she recalled her first official outing with the late Queen as they opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Storyhouse, a performing arts theater in Cheshire, Meghan thought back on her interactions with the monarch.
The royal described being with Her Majesty as “special,” adding that she felt “fortunate” that they were able to spend that time together.
In a tribute to the Queen, she stated: “She is without a doubt the most shining example of what that looks like in terms of female leadership. I’m incredibly grateful that I had the chance to meet her and get to know her.
Shortly before her interview, Meghan made an unexpected appearance at a Women@Spotify event where she praised the bravery of the Iranian protesters.
The Duchess wore a shirt with the Farsi phrase “Women. Life. Freedom” while giving her speech as a sign of solidarity.
