After an eight-year on-off relationship, Prince William proposed to the Princess of Wales in 2010. He has since revealed why he delayed the proposal.
At St. Andrews University, the royal couple started dating after being friends for more than a year. During their relationship, which included a brief split, Princess Kate was given the nickname “Waity Katie” by the media. During a trip to Kenya, South Africa, with friends, William proposed and gave his future wife a stunning sapphire and diamond engagement ring that had once belonged to Princess Diana, his late mother.

William revealed the real reason he didn’t propose marriage earlier in an interview with journalist Tom Bradby after the couple announced their engagement.
“How many good years have there been?” When Kate made a joke about how long they had been together, William responded, “I’ve lost count!”
The son of King Charles III explained: “Kate was aware of everything because we had been discussing it for a while. It was just a matter of finding the right moment; we had been planning it for at least a year. As most couples state, timing is everything.

“I had a military career and really wanted to focus on my flying, but if I had been in training, I wouldn’t have been able to do that. Now that I’ve cleared that up, Kate is in a good place professionally and in terms of where she wants to be, and we both agreed that the time is right.”
The Prince of Wales continued by saying that he wanted Princess Kate to know what it would be like to join the famous royal family.
“I’m attempting to draw lessons from mistakes made in the past. I just wanted to give her the best opportunity to adapt “I’m also glad I’ve had the time to grow and understand myself more so hopefully I’ll do a good job, he said, and his then-fiancée continued.

William expressed how sentimental his engagement location was to him at a reception celebrating the UK-Africa Investment Summit in 2020. “I feel a deep connection to the African continent.
“After our mother passed away, my father took my brother and I there. And when considering the best location to pop the question to Catherine, I couldn’t think of anywhere more appropriate than Kenya.”
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are the proud offspring of the couple, who were wed in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 2011.
