Prince George, the eldest son of the Princess of Wales, was seen being comforted by Sophie Wessex as the family attended the Queen’s funeral on Monday at Westminster Abbey.
The nine-year-old, who is now second in line to the throne following the Queen’s passing on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96, can be seen in the pictures with the royal’s arm around her. Lady Louise and James Viscount Severn, the children of Prince Edward and Sophie, were seated apart from their parents with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and the other grandchildren of Her Majesty.
Along with family members like Zara and Mike Tindall, Prince Harry and Meghan, and of course, King Charles, Princess Anne, and Princes Edward and Andrew, the Wessexes attended the funeral.
While Lady Louise had previously joined Prince Edward and Sophie as they paused to observe memorials to the Queen outside Balmoral on Monday. During the walkabout and while viewing the flower tributes left at Buckingham Palace, Louise and Sophie tenderly held hands.

Although there was no official explanation for James’ absence, it’s likely that Sophie and Edward chose to keep him out of the public eye so soon after the passing of his grandmother in order to protect his privacy.
The King George VI memorial chapel in Windsor will serve as the Queen’s final resting place. The Queen will receive Philip, who was originally interred in the Royal Vault of St. George’s Chapel.

In 1969, the memorial chapel was affixed to the St. George’s building’s north side, behind the North Quire Aisle. The Queen’s sister Princess Margaret, who passed away in 2002, and her parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother, are also interred there, making it a very sentimental place for the royal family.
