Princess Charlotte received a consoling smile from Duchess Meghan as the royal family left Westminster Abbey on Monday after Her Majesty’s funeral.
The Princess, along with her older brother Prince George and their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, attended the event. As the family was leaving the church, the Princess noticed Meghan, who had changed from looking solemn to smiling broadly when she noticed Charlotte’s gaze.
Following the exchange, the Princess quickly glanced around and appeared to smile as she observed the touching interaction between her niece and aunt.
One of the youngest attendees at the funeral was Little Princess Charlotte, age 7. She wore an all-black outfit and a stunning diamond brooch in the form of a horseshoe. The Queen gave Charlotte the small but meaningful accessory, which is her first important piece of jewelry.
Her uncle and aunt, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reunited with Prince William and Kate in public last Sunday in Windsor. They greeted royal admirers as they gathered to mourn the loss of the 96-year-old monarch, who passed away in Balmoral.
Following Her Majesty’s passing, the couple shared a heartfelt obituary with the following statement:
“In celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen – and in mourning her loss – we are all reminded of the guiding compass she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty. She was globally admired and respected.
“Her unwavering grace and dignity remained true throughout her life and now her everlasting legacy. Let us echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now: ‘Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.'”
