Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip’s touching reunion following funeral

Following Her Majesty’s funeral, which will take place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey, the couple will be reunited after spending 17 months apart.

Her Majesty’s body was taken on September 8 to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, the monarch’s official royal residence in Scotland. The Queen was laid to rest in St. Giles’ Cathedral for the public to pay their respects. Her son King Charles III led the procession.

Thousands of royal enthusiasts walked past the coffin at Westminster Hall later in the week when they had another chance to pay the Queen a visit.

The Queen’s coffin will be transported to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on the morning of the funeral, where Her Majesty will be laid to rest in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, and her husband of 73 years will be moved to join her.

The Duke of Edinburgh was interred in the Royal Vault of St. George’s Chapel after passing away in April 2021, at the height of COVID-19. It was anticipated that this would only be temporary as part of royal protocol so that he could be buried next to the Queen.

The Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and her parents, Queen Elizabeth and King George VI, are also interred at the chapel.

Last year, Prince Phillip’s funeral was held in accordance with strict social conventions, so it was a low-key event. The great-grandchildren of the Duke did not attend his funeral, which was most likely due to that reason, although they were present at his Memorial Service in March of this year at Westminster Abbey.

However, the funeral is expected to be attended by the Queen’s four children—King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward—as well as her grandchildren and their partners.
