Prior to the Queen’s funeral on Monday, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie paid tribute to their late grandmother.
The royal sisters addressed Eugenie in a joint statement posted on social media by the family and Eugenie, which featured a childhood picture of Eugenie. Since you left us all, we haven’t been able to express ourselves very well. Our beloved Queen and our beloved Grannie, there have been tears and laughter, silences and chatter, hugs and loneliness, and there has been a general sense of loss.
“Like many others, we assumed you would stay here forever. And we all sincerely miss you. You served as our matriarch, our leader, and the gentle hand that guided us through this world. You taught us so much, and we will always value the knowledge and the memories you gave us.
All we want to say right now, dear Grannie, is thank you. We appreciate you making us laugh, including us, picking heather and raspberries, watching soldiers march, providing our teas, providing solace, and bringing us joy. Being you, you will never be aware of the effect you have had on our family and so many others worldwide.
Beatrice and Eugenie continued by mentioning the tributes received from all over the world, saying “The world mourns you and the tributes would really make you smile. They all too accurately describe the exceptional leader you are. We’re thrilled that Grandpa has brought you back. Dear Grandma, thank you for giving us the privilege of being your granddaughters. We are so very proud of you.
“We are confident that because he has devoted his life to serving others, dear Uncle Charles, the King, will carry on in your footsteps. Save the King, God. Beatrice and Eugenie, with love.
Her Majesty’s death, at the age of 96, was announced by Buckingham Palace on Thursday, September 8.
Numerous floral tributes, numbering in the thousands, have been left outside the royal residences, including Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, and Windsor Castle, in response to the Queen’s passing. Two days after the Queen passed away, Beatrice and Eugenie were among her family members who visited the bouquets left outside the late monarch’s Scottish estate, Balmoral.
Along with their cousins, the royal siblings—who both became mothers last year—will observe a vigil on Saturday at Westminster Hall in front of the Queen’s casket.
The late Prince Philip and the Duchess of York’s daughters, Sarah and Prince Andrew, were very close with each other.
Princess Eugenie praised the Queen during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022 and shared how she hoped her unborn son August would be like her.
“I think of my grannie and what she has stood for, for so many people and for our family during these 70 years,” Eugenie wrote in The Spectator. I wish Augie had her kindness, calmness, and patience along with the ability to laugh at himself and maintain a twinkle in his eye.
“Seventy years is really quite something, isn’t it,” Eugenie continued. The Jubilee is a testament to a woman who has stood the test of time and has been that steady rock for so many people when it seems like the world is falling apart.
