Prince Harry WILL wear military uniform as he honours late Queen before funeral

Prince Harry will, contrary to what was originally planned, attend the anticipated vigil in his military uniform.

Harry was asked to wear a black suit to the procession on Wednesday while his brother Prince William wore a military uniform. Harry did, however, wear his medals. The Duke of Sussex will now make an appearance in uniform with his brother on Monday before the funeral for the Queen.

The Prince joined his family in the procession

Despite stepping down as a senior royal, the Prince’s main goal is to honor his grandmother, so the decision to let him continue wearing the uniform was made without Harry’s request. The father-of-two had been ready to wear whatever the Queen had in mind.

When he is reportedly set to join his cousins on September 17 to pay tribute to their late grandmother at Westminster Hall, he will now dress in his Blues and Royals uniform.

Harry’s brother Prince William, his cousins – Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Zara Tindall and Peter Philips, Lady Louise, and James, Viscount Severn are all anticipated to attend the vigil with him.

Harry, a former Army officer, has worn civilian clothing to official events despite this, including walking behind his grandmother’s casket on September 14 as it was brought to Westminster Hall to lie in state.

Another exception has been made for the Duke of York, who is no longer a working royal, will also wear his uniform as a “special mark of respect” for the Queen when he and his siblings stand guard around her coffin on the evening of Friday, September 16.

Meghan comforted her husband at the procession

Harry wrote on Monday about the Queen’s presence at his passing-out parade in 2006, when he was promoted to the rank of officer in the British Army.

He described his grandmother as “my Commander-in-Chief” and spoke of their “first meeting.” It is assumed that he was referring to the time she made him blush and smile while reviewing the cadets.

His wife the Duchess of Sussex is with him in the UK, and they are currently residing at Frogmore Cottage on the royal Windsor estate. It is unknown whether their two children, Archie and Lilibet, are living with their parents in the UK or if Meghan’s mother is looking after them at their Montecito home in California.

“I don’t think we’re going to see the Sussex children, I’d be very surprised,” said royal correspondent Emily Nash. “Given their young age, it’s really not an appropriate moment for them to be in public.” There has been no mention of Archie and Lili possibly moving in with their parents, and this is for obvious security concerns among other things.

The Queen died at the age of 96

However, “given their very young ages, I would not imagine that they would be involved in any ceremonial aspects.”

On September 8, the monarch passed away at her Scottish residence of Balmoral, with King Charles and Princess Anne by her side. Her coffin was transferred to St Giles’ Cathedral on Monday, where it remained until Tuesday, when it was returned to Buckingham Palace. She was carried in an emotional procession to Westminster Hall on Wednesday, where she is now lying in state.
