Meghan Markle has canceled her participation in a gala honoring Variety magazine’s upcoming “Power of Women” issue.
Meghan will be honored alongside other well-known women like Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and Malala despite not attending.
On September 28, nine days after the Queen State Funeral at Westminster Abbey, the event will take place later this month.
Following official confirmation that Meghan was also suspending her Archetypes podcast for the duration of the Queen’s mourning period, the cancellation was officially announced on Wednesday.
Since its debut on August 23, three complete episodes of the audio series have been made available. These episodes include interviews with actress and producer Mindy Kaling, pop star Mariah Carey, and seasoned tennis player Serena Williams.
New episodes of Archetypes will be paused during the period of official mourning for Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II, according to a message on the podcast’s Spotify page.
The “royal mourning” period will last for seven days following the Queen’s funeral on Monday, September 19.
Meghan and Prince Harry were present for the procession of the Queen’s casket to Westminster Hall in London, where the late monarch is lying in state before the funeral, on Wednesday.
Meghan honored Her Majesty on this special occasion by donning a pair of earrings she had given her back in 2018.
The Duchess previously praised the Queen for being “warm and inviting” in her life, and she also mentioned that the Queen’s late grandmother-in-law gave her “some beautiful pearl earrings and a matching necklace” for the couple’s first joint engagement.
