Why Prince Harry was not in a military uniform like his brother Prince William

Unlike his brother Prince William, Prince Harry will wear a mourning suit throughout events honoring his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who he is mourning the loss of.

His decade of military service “is not determined by the uniform he wears,” according to the press secretary for the Duke of Sussex, who has confirmed that he will wear a morning suit.

Only working members of the royal family will be permitted to attend ceremonial events during the period of mourning for the late monarch wearing military uniform, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said earlier in the week.

These include the Thanksgiving Service at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, the procession to Westminster Hall and a time of prayer and reflection, the Vigil at Westminster Hall, the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey, and the Committal Service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The Duke of Sussex was unable to put on his uniform because he had resigned as a senior royal. In January 2020, Harry and Meghan made the choice and shared the news on social media.

The Palace’s decision was a “huge blow for the Duke of Sussex, who served for ten years… and spoke of the Queen being his ‘commander-in-chief,'” according to Royal Editor Omid Scobie.

The Duke of York, a non-working member of the royal family, was seen at Westminster Hall in military garb as a special sign of respect.

The second son of the late monarch retired from the throne in 2019 due to his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. a royal insider informed HELLO! “He discussed with the Queen and the Prince of Wales and other members of the family, but it was a personal decision by the Duke,” the statement continued.

The Queen will attend a vigil before her state funeral, which will take place at Westminster Abbey on September 19th.

All four of the monarch’s children and their partners are anticipated to attend, including King Charles and the Queen Consort, Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, and Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex.
