When they arrived in their car at Buckingham Palace, where they would have seen the Queen’s coffin for the first time as a couple, Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry appeared emotional.
Princess Anne accompanied the coffin as it arrived at Buckingham Palace shortly after 8 o’clock. Following their return from Northern Ireland, King Charles and the Queen Consort arrived at Buckingham Palace earlier in the day.
Meghan and her husband were both wearing black dresses.
The Queen made her last trip from Scotland on Tuesday and returned to London. In a plane carrying her coffin to RAF Northolt was her devoted daughter Princess Anne.
The Queen will spend Tuesday night at Buckingham Palace in the Bow Room, where she has previously hosted dinners for foreign dignitaries and royals.
The late monarch will be transported to Westminster Hall on Wednesday in a procession, where she will lie in state for four days.
At 14:22, the coffin will depart from Buckingham Palace. The cortege’s route through central London will pass through Queen’s Gardens, The Mall, Horse Guards and Horse Guards Arch, Whitehall, Parliament Street, Parliament Square, and New Palace Yard, where spectators can watch.
The King and other Royal Family members will participate in the procession. To mark the solemn occasion, guns will be fired at Hyde Park and Big Ben will ring.
The coffin will lie in the Bow Room, until it is moved to Westminster Hall on Wednesday where it will lie in state until the Queen’s state funeral on 19 September.
