Prince Harry admits to ‘significant tensions’ with the Queen’s private secretary

Prince Harry has described his personal dispute with Sir Edward Young, the Queen’s private secretary, following a committee decision that prevented the Duke from receiving state security.

The grandson of the Queen has argued that because key members of the Royal Household were involved, the committee’s decision regarding his security was not made in an impartial manner. Prince Harry has filed a claim against the Home Office regarding his police protection in the UK, which could lead to a bitter embarrassment.

Shaheed Fatima QC, the Duke’s attorney, testified before the court that the Duke was unaware at the time that any members of the Royal Household were involved. He was informed that it was an independent choice.

She continued by mentioning “significant tensions” between Harry and Sir Edward Young, the Queen’s private secretary.

Prince Harry, who was disappointed with the result, has claimed that he should have been informed about the decision-making procedure, including whether it was “appropriate” for members of the royal household to have participated.

At a hearing on Thursday, Harry’s attorneys will ask Mr. Justice Swift to approve a full judicial review of the Home Office’s decision in an effort to overturn it. He is contesting the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures’ (Ravec) February 2020 decision regarding his security after learning he would no longer receive the “same degree” of personal protective security when visiting. Ravec is a body that falls under the purview of the Home Office.

The father of two, who will step down from his royal duties in January 2020, hopes to bring his wife and kids to the UK but is ‘unable to return to his home’ at the moment because it is deemed to be too dangerous.

Harry believes that the UK “is and always will be his home,” Ms. Fatima previously testified to the court.

“Prince Harry inherited a security risk at birth, for life,” she continued. His family has received well-documented threats from extremists and neo-Nazis in recent years. He is still sixth in line to the throne and has served two combat tours in Afghanistan.

“While his position within the organization has changed, his standing as a royal family member has not. Neither has the threat to him or his family existed.
