Prince Charles got to know his granddaughter Lili and saw his grandson Archie again in the course of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s visit to the UK earlier this month.
The meeting was “very emotional,” according to a senior royal source, and Prince Charles and Camilla were delighted to meet Harry and Meghan and their two kids.
Just before Lili’s first birthday, the couple made the short trip from their home in California to London to take part in some of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities and to spend some quality time with their families.
The source said the following about the couple during the briefing for Clarence House’s annual review: “Awe-inspiring to see them. Their return to Britain was wonderful. When the Prince and the Duchess saw them, they were ecstatic.
“It was obviously very special for the Prince to spend time with his grandson Archie since he hadn’t seen him in a while.
He had never met Lili, his granddaughter, so it was an extremely emotional and wonderful experience for him to do so.
At Frogmore Cottage, Meghan and Harry’s base in the UK, Lili also had her first birthday party and got to meet her namesake, her great-grandmother the Queen.
The day before, photos of Harry and Meghan watching Trooping the Colour and the Jubilee service of Thanksgiving in St. Paul’s Cathedral were taken.
The Buckingham Palace balcony was reserved for senior working members of the royal family, so they did not appear there with other royals.
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace stated this in the lead-up to the event: “After careful consideration, The Queen has decided this year’s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday, June 2, will be restricted to Her Majesty and those members of the Royal Family who are currently performing official public duties on behalf of the Queen.”
Beginning in 2020, Harry and Meghan stopped performing official duties.
I’m happy that Sophia met her grandpa and grandma. I wait to meet everyone, especially my youngest child. Give her and the rest of our brood snuggles for me and tell them that I love them.
