Meghan Markle was quietly consoling Prince Harry during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, according to a lip reader.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex kept a low profile during the four-day extravaganza, but were seen with other members of the Royal Family at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday.
The Daily Express reports that Prince Harry and Meghan, who traveled to the UK from their home in Montecito, California, were forced to sit in the second row, 25 feet away from Prince William and Prince Charles.
Meghan also said something reassuring to her husband during the thanksgiving service, according to a lip reader.
“Yeah, will be fine,” Meghan reportedly said to Prince Harry at one point during the 50-minute service.
The seating arrangements at St Paul’s, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward, were designed to keep Prince Harry and Prince William from coming face to face.
Ingrid explained to Fabulous: “They were told that because they were no longer working members, they would have to take a back seat.
“The truth is that the Palace was determined that no photographs would be taken that would reveal any animosity between the brothers.
“For Harry, becoming a’second row royal’ is a difficult pill to swallow.”
Kate and William sat in the front row with Prince Charles and Camilla, while Harry and Meghan sat beside their cousins Princess Eugenie and Beatrice and husbands Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank on the opposite side of the cathedral.
Royal expert Richard Kay, writing for the Mail, claimed that the seating arrangement revealed the “public reality” of Harry’s descent down the royal pecking order, calling Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate the “real stars of the show.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left early for the United States, missing the Platinum Jubilee pageant, which culminated the four-day celebrations.
When the spectacular parade began on Sunday, the couple, along with their two children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one year old, were already in the air. They were driven from Frogmore Cottage to Farnborough Airport before taking off at 1.30pm, according to reports.
“There was no fanfare, they just went,” a source told The Sun.
“They were not present at the Platinum Jubilee pageant.”
