The Cambridges to miss Lilibet’s first birthday following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just arrived in UK in honor of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the royal family is pulling out all the stops.

Members of the royal family will travel across the United Kingdom to meet with members of the public and commemorate the monarch’s 70-year reign.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are scheduled to visit Cardiff Castle in Wales on Saturday to meet with performers and crew members involved in a special Platinum Jubilee Celebration Concert taking place later that afternoon in the castle grounds.

However, William and Kate’s engagement falls on Lilibet’s first birthday, making it unlikely that they will be able to see her on her special day.

That isn’t to say the day will be anything short of magical for the little girl. On the Platinum Jubilee weekend, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is expected to spend her first birthday meeting her namesake, the Queen.

Due to her mobility issues, the monarch will no longer be attending the Epsom Derby on Saturday, according to royal sources, and the Princess Royal will take her place. As a result, there’s a chance she’ll meet her great-grandchild for the first time.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already confirmed that they will return to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It will be the first visit to the UK by Harry and Meghan’s family since they left for the United States in 2020.

“Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are excited and honoured to attend The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this June with their children,” a spokeswoman for Harry and Meghan said at the time.

It is unknown which Jubilee events the Sussexes will attend, but they are expected to attend Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s main birthday parade, on Thursday 2 June.

They may or may not be part of the carriage procession down the Mall, even if they aren’t on the balcony. If Archie and Lili are too young to ride in the carriages, they can watch their parents from the windows of Buckingham Palace, as other young royals have done in the past.
