The royal premiere of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequel was recently attended by Kate Middleton and Prince William. The British tabloids are buzzing about a brief encounter between the Duchess of Cambridge and the movie star on the red carpet. When Cruise grabbed Kate’s hand, he appeared to break royal protocol, but her quick reaction was so smooth, classy, and poised that it kept Cruise out of the “Danger Zone.” (Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves.)

The premiere of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in London was attended by Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the special royal charity premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in London’s Leicester Square on Thursday, May 19. As the couple entered the event via the red carpet, Cruise greeted them and introduced them to some of the cast and crew before escorting them to the screening.

Cruise made the gentlemanly gesture of offering Kate his hand to help her up the steps during a brief moment captured by the British press. She kindly accepted the gesture because she was wearing a figure-hugging Roland Mouret gown and Prada heels, which made the small set of stairs difficult.

However, fans were left wondering if Cruise was “allowed” to touch a member of the royal family during this brief encounter.

When Tom Cruise allegedly broke royal protocol, Kate Middleton reacted quickly.

It’s long been said that you can’t touch a member of the royal family. It’s also a well-established rule, according to Hello! Magazine, that you can only take the Queen’s hand if she has offered it.

When it comes to the duchess, she might have been aware of the rumor or assumed that touching royals was against protocol. As a result, she reacted quickly after Cruise assisted her up the stairs.

Cruise let go of Kate’s hand after the sweet moment, and she moved her clutch purse into the hand he was holding. Cruise was unable to reclaim her hand when they reached the next flight of stairs. Kate handled the situation so gracefully and elegantly that her reaction to Cruise’s alleged gaffe was almost imperceptible.

What are the guidelines for handling a member of the royal family?

According to Yahoo! Royal editor Omid Scobie, while there are many royal rules and traditions, there are no “official rules when it comes to touching a member of the Royal Family.”

“It’s more about what’s socially acceptable or not,” Scobie explained. “I believe there are a lot of things that are perceived as royal etiquette or royal protocol that aren’t actually the case.”

If Kate didn’t like Cruise’s gesture, she wouldn’t have given him her hand, according to Scobie.

Scobie says, “It could have been a lot worse.” “The worst-case scenario would be if she fell downstairs during a royal film premiere.”

The royal editor concluded by stating that the royals’ rules are simple and straightforward. Giving someone your hand to help them up the stairs is perfectly acceptable. But it would have been “inappropriate” to rush up to William or Kate and hug them.
