Cruise reprises his role as US naval aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, returning to the Top Gun academy to train fighter pilots, 36 years after the original Top Gun film was released in 1986.

Miles Teller plays Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s tragic friend and radar officer Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, who was killed when a training exercise went wrong.

The premiere was the first Royal Film Performance since the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall saw the First World War drama 1917 in 2019.

The Royal Command Film Performance was first staged at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square in 1946 as the Royal Command Film Performance.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, as well as Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, watched the film A Matter Of Life And Death, starring David Niven.
