The royals called on the nation to "lift someone out of loneliness"

Prince William and Kate interrupt radio stations to make big announcement

On Friday morning, Prince William and Kate broadcast an important message in honor of Mental Health Awareness Week on all UK radio stations. As they took to the airwaves of more than 500 stations to apologize for the disruption, William and Kate urged the nation to “lift someone out of loneliness.”

The couple began by introducing themselves in the 60-second broadcast for this year’s Mental Health Minute before William said: “We’ve all experienced loneliness… We can sense it for a variety of reasons.”

“However, we can all work together to make each other feel less alone and more connected,” Kate continued.

“If you think someone you know is lonely,” the Duchess advised, “just give them a call, send them a text, or knock on their door.” “Perhaps suggest we meet for coffee or a walk,” William suggested.

“Because small acts of kindness can make a huge difference and make us all feel less lonely,” Kate explained. “So, apologies for interrupting every radio station in the country,” the future King concluded.

“However, if we disrupt the lives of those who are lonely…” “We can help lift them out of loneliness,” Kate said, as William added.

The royal couple has long advocated for mental health issues and has previously appeared on the Mental Health Minute. This year, however, they were the sole speakers for the first time.

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is focused on loneliness, which is affecting an increasing number of people in the UK and has had a significant impact on the nation’s physical and mental health during the pandemic. According to data from the Community Life Survey, more than one out of every ten young people feels lonely frequently or always, making them the loneliest of all age groups.

William and Kate visited the University of Glasgow earlier this week, where they spoke with students about their mental health and wellbeing during the pandemic, including those whose studies include mental health research and who are members of the University’s Society for Mental Health.
