Prince Harry tells PEOPLE magazine, “I am an incredibly lucky man to have her as my wife.”
Prince Harry said having Meghan Markle by his side at Invictus Games ‘Meant Everything’.
The Invictus Games have been linked to “very pivotal and sentimental moments” in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lives.
Since launching the Invictus Games, an adaptive sports competition for service personnel and veterans, in 2014, the Duke of Sussex has married and fathered two children (son Archie, who turns 3 on May 6, and daughter Lilibet, 10 months). After making their public debut as a couple in Toronto and announcing their pregnancy with son Archie ahead of the Sydney Games, Harry will be able to share the experience with Meghan for the third time this year in the Netherlands.
The Duke of Sussex, 37, tells PEOPLE in this week’s exclusive cover story, “There is nowhere you can feel more embraced and supported than with the Invictus family.” “Our first time out in public in an official capacity was at the Toronto Games. We were dating at the time, so there was a lot to take in, but luckily, we were in the right community. Now, five years later, as parents of two children and residents of the United States, we find ourselves in the Hague for the fifth Invictus Games.”
He goes on to say, “I’d always wanted to share these incredible experiences with someone special, and having Meg by my side makes all the difference. The last time we attended the Games was in Sydney in 2018, shortly after we found out we were expecting Archie. So the Games are significant to us for a variety of reasons, and they are tied to some of our most pivotal and sentimental moments as a couple. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have her as my wife.”
Prince Harry and Meghan, according to Ken Fisher, chairman and CEO of Fisher House, a charity for military families, have a positive impact on the athletes.
“When he and Meghan walk into a room, I see the looks on people’s faces. Everything is subject to change. Everything is illuminated “he declares “And there’s a lot of darkness in the lives of these [military families]. It’s healing to bring in new life.”
The sacrifices made by service members and their families are recognized by Prince Harry.
He tells PEOPLE, “Being a dad certainly adds another emotional layer to it.” “I promised myself when I was in the Army that I would be out before having a wife and kids because I couldn’t imagine the heartache of being apart for so long during deployment, the risk of being injured, and the reality that my family’s lives could be forever changed if that happened.”
