During the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a brief kiss, breaking with royal tradition. The kiss was dissected by a body language expert, who also explained why Harry appeared emotional before delivering his speech.
At the Invictus Games opening ceremony, Meghan Markle gushed about her husband.
At the opening ceremony of the 2022 Invictus Games, Meghan introduced Prince Harry. Meghan said, “It is my distinguished honor to introduce someone who I believe you will all be very excited to hear from.” “He’s also spent a lot of late nights and early mornings planning these games to ensure that they’re perfect for each of you.”
“I could not love and respect him more,” she continued, “and I know that all of you feel the same way, because he is a fellow veteran who has served two tours in Afghanistan and ten years in the military.”
“He’s the founder of the Invictus Games and the father of our two little ones, Archie and Lili,” the Duchess of Sussex continued. Please accept my heartfelt greetings on behalf of my incredible husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.”
When Prince Harry entered the stage, he kissed Meghan. “Thank you, my love,” he said after their PDA moment.
A body language expert delves into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘groundbreaking’ kiss.
Judi James, a body language expert, told the Mirror her thoughts on the kiss, pointing out how it violated royal protocol. “As Meghan and Harry hand over the microphone, they also perform a kiss that would be expected in politics but is unprecedented in royal terms,” James explained. “It’s affectionate but quick, and they’re both proudly smiling as they do it.”
Following the kiss, Harry appeared to be overcome with emotion and took a moment to collect himself before delivering his speech.
“The problem for Harry is that it appears to knock him emotionally sideways,” said the expert of their kiss. “As he watches his wife walk off the stage, he stands in stunned silence for 30 seconds as the audience continues to applaud.”
“The stunned silence is mutually beneficial,” James continued, “because crowds only stop clapping when the mic is raised to the mouth, and Harry appears to be too close to tears to do so for the duration of the 30 seconds.”
Harry’s behavior has been described as “unusually emotional” by experts.
James went on to say that Prince Harry’s initial emotional reaction was out of the ordinary. “Harry has been seen striding out onto global stages with all the cheeky confidence of an MC at a rock conference,” she explained, “and this is an unusually emotional display from him.”
James continued, “Instead, he turns his reddened face to the side, wiping the side of his nose with his knuckles in what appears to be a partial cut-off to shield his facial expression.”
Harry, too, appeared teary-eyed, according to the body language expert. “His eyes have the saddest expression,” she explained, “as his tongue pokes out from the corner of his mouth and he looks down to suggest tearfulness.”
