Prince Harry faces ‘final nail in coffin of royal life’ after US exit

According to a royal specialist, Prince Harry’s position in a key royal function may be reaching an end as a result of his plan to travel to the United States, and his removal would be the “last nail in the coffin” for the Duke.

Because of Harry’s decision to move to the United States in 2020 with his wife Meghan Markle, 40, he may now lose his spot on the Queen’s Counsellors of State, which appoints two or more Counsellors to act in Her Majesty’s place “in the event that the Queen cannot undertake her official duties as Sovereign on a temporary basis due to illness or absence abroad.”

The monarch’s spouse and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21 make up the Counsellors of State, according to the legislation, hence the roles are currently held by Prince Andrew, Prince Charles, and his sons William and Harry.

However, royal experts warn that according to UK legislation, Harry might be kicked out of the Counsellors of State in a matter of years, since he could lose his domiciled status and therefore be disqualified for the job.

Removing Harry as a Counsellor of State would require an Act of Parliament, according to royal scholar Daniela Elser, who believes it would be the “last nail in the coffin” for Harry after he left the royal family.

“Being removed, by Parliament no less, as a Counsellor of State would really be the nail in Harry’s coffin of his old life as a frontline member of the Royal Family,” she wrote in a column for the New Zealand Herald.
