Meghan Markle Is the Most-Googled Royal Despite Controversial Year

Meghan Markle hasn’t visited the United Kingdom since March 2020, when she and Prince Harry finished their final engagement as members of Queen Elizabeth II’s working family. Despite this, the Duchess of Sussex remains the most Googled royal in the United Kingdom. She’s also the most-searched person in the United States.

Here’s how many monthly searches Meghan gets compared to the rest of the royal family, and why one commentator thinks people in the United Kingdom are still Googling Harry’s bride despite her declining popularity.

Meghan was Googled more than any other member of the royal family.

While Meghan’s popularity in the United Kingdom has dipped since her decision to step down as a senior royal, data compiled by Ahrefs.com shows that she is still the most-searched royal on both sides of the Atlantic.

Every month, the name “Meghan Markle” is Googled about 1.1 million times in the United Kingdom alone. And Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, is the second most-searched royal, with around 579,000 searches per month.

With an average of 380,000 searches per month, Kate Middleton is the most-searched working member of the royal family, trailing only her sister-in-law.

Meghan is still ‘intriguing’ the British public, according to a commentator.

Despite Megxit, her explosive allegations in the Oprah Winfrey interview, and other clashes with the royal family, royal commentator and founder of the British Monarchist Society, Thomas Mace-Archer-Mills offered a few reasons why Britons may still be interested in Meghan.

He told Express, “People have been following the Duchess of Sussex simply because she is intriguing.” “She entered the royal family like a cyclone, with all the drama of a prime-time soap opera, and she hasn’t disappointed on the entertainment front since then.”

“When she is splashed all over the media, despite quitting the royal family, people want to know the story,” Mace-Archer-Mills continued. Her actions, as well as her general contempt for royal protocol and traditions, fascinate them. This adds to the duchess’ underlying mystique.”

For years, the Duchess of Sussex has been the most Googled royal.

It’s nothing new for the duchess of Sussex to be the most-searched royal.

Meghan was the most-Googled royal for the entire year of 2020, according to data compiled by Banc. Given that she and the prince announced their decision to step down and relocate to California, the findings were not surprising.

In 2018, the year she and Harry married, the Duchess of Sussex was the most Googled person. Meghan was also named the most-searched royal in 2019 by Yahoo U.K., at a time when many people were still trying to learn everything they could about the former Suits star.
