Meghan Markle gave us a new look at her son Archie — and his “chick inn” — in a new video.
Meghan shared a new photo of her 2-year-old son with pal Ellen DeGeneres during her appearance on her talk show on Thursday. The photo, taken from behind (and revealing his reddish hair, just like his father Prince Harry! ), shows Archie standing in the family’s chicken coop, which was first seen during the couple’s March interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Archie watches the hens eat from a miniature picnic table while holding a basket, presumably to assist in egg collection.
“He’s so sweet with the chickens, too,” said DeGeneres, who lives in Montecito with Meghan and Harry and frequently visits them. “Archie has such a gentle spirit.”
“Aww, thank you,” Meghan replied with a smile.
In the photo, the toddler is even wearing Hunter rain boots with Peppa Pig, a popular British cartoon character, as a nod to his British roots. (Prince William previously revealed that his son, Prince George, was a huge Peppa Pig fan before switching to Fireman Sam on BBC Radio 1.)
After relocating to California last year, Meghan, 40, and Prince Harry, 37, revealed during their Oprah interview that they had rescued the hens from a factory farm as part of their new “down to basics” lifestyle.
A sign inside the chicken coop read “Archie’s Chick Inn — established 2021,” which was named after the couple’s firstborn.
In addition to revealing Archie’s Halloween costume (which he wore for “about five minutes” before removing), Meghan revealed that her son was aware of his appearance in her children’s book, The Bench.
“He does,” Meghan said, adding that the toddler also recognized the family’s two dogs from the book (a beagle named Guy and a black Labrador named Pula).
“When you open the first page and see our dogs, he says, ‘That’s Pula!’ Guy, that’s him!’ “she continued.
Meghan was also accompanied by her trusted glam squad, who wore a cream top with voluminous sleeves and cutouts, black pants, and matching pumps. Long-time friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin, as well as hairstylist Jason Low, assisted her in getting camera-ready.
Martin tells PEOPLE, “We were backstage the entire time.” “It’s a lot of fun, and Ellen really brought Meghan’s goofy, funny side out, which everyone will finally get to see.”
