After being forced to cancel her trip to Northern Ireland, the Queen spent the night at the King Edward VII Hospital on Wednesday night.

HELLO! understands that Her Majesty was admitted for practical reasons, with her medical team understandably opting for caution. However, the monarch returned to her desk on Thursday afternoon, carrying out light duties.
The trip was expected to be a brief stopover for “preliminary investigations,” which is why it wasn’t announced on Wednesday, as well as to safeguard the royal’s medical privacy.
“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits,” a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said.
At the private King Edward VII’s Hospital in central London, the Queen was examined by specialists. Her admission was not thought to be related to the coronavirus.
The Queen has had a number of engagements in the week leading up to her hospital admission, including meeting Canadian troops from the 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.
She also launched the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games from the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, and attended a Westminster Abbey service of thanksgiving to commemorate the Royal British Legion’s centenary, accompanied by the Princess Royal.
She was seen using a walking stick at the Abbey for the first time, and it was the first time she had done so at a major event.
The 95-year-old also paid a visit to Cardiff and spent a day at the races in Ascot, where he presented the trophy following the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes as part of the Qipco British Champions Day.
The Queen had three engagements the day before her hospital stay: two virtual audiences with the Japanese and EU ambassadors, and then an evening reception at Windsor Castle to commemorate the Global Investment Summit.
