According to Carolyn Durrand and Omid Scobie’s biography Finding Freedom, which many believe the Sussexes leaked information for (the couple denies this), William wasn’t too keen on Meghan after Harry decided she was the one. According to the book, Willliam failed to provide Harry with the support he expected and referred to Meghan as “this girl.”
According to the book’s sources, William told Harry, “Don’t feel like you have to rush this.” “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl,” says the narrator.
That remark reportedly enraged Harry, and if he ever told Meghan about it, she probably didn’t feel accepted or welcomed with open arms.

The Christmas video that went around the world is another example of Meghan and William’s strained relationship. On Christmas Day in 2018, William appears to ignore Meghan outside of church. Meghan turns to say something to her brother-in-law halfway through the video, but William doesn’t respond or acknowledge the duchess, instead adjusting his scarf. Meghan’s reaction was caught on camera after she didn’t get a response, as her face fell and she appeared stunned.
Meghan smiles and quickly turns around to face William again near the end of the video, after the Sussexes and Cambridges walk down the church stairs, but he doesn’t say anything to her.
The internet was buzzing after the video went viral, with almost everyone believing William had snubbed the duchess internationally.
