Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first outing in New York

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first public appearance since the birth of their daughter, Lilibet, in June at New York’s One World Trade Center.

At the skyscraper’s observatory, Prince Harry and Meghan joined New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul.

The visit comes just two weeks after the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, when One World Trade Center was built on the site of the original twin towers.

To commemorate the anniversary, Harry and Meghan changed the homepage of the Archewell website to display the names of the nearly 3,000 people who died earlier this month.

Meghan wore a high-neck sweater with trousers underneath a long coat for her visit as a mark of respect, while Harry wore a long coat.

“It’s wonderful to be back,” Meghan said when asked if the Duke and Duchess were enjoying their visit to New York.

As they walked away, a crowd greeted them, with Meghan giving a thumbs up to fans and one congratulating them on the birth of Lilibet.

The couple will also attend Global Citizen Live, a 24-hour broadcast taking place in New York’s famous Central Park and around the world.

It’s part of a series of shows put on by the organization Global Citizen in cities ranging from London to Lagos, with acts like Ed Sheeran, Sir Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Metallica, and Coldplay set to perform.

In honor of their son Archie’s second birthday in May, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex advocated for vaccine equity and urged people to support the Global Citizen COVAX campaign.

Back in May, Harry made a solo appearance at Global Citizen’s VAX Live concert. At the star-studded charity concert, the royal spoke for three minutes about the importance of making vaccinations borderless and called for them to be “distributed to everyone everywhere.”

Harry’s sustainable tourism initiative, Travalyst, announced that Google will join its coalition as a partner alongside existing partners Booking.com, Skyscanner, Trip.com Group, Tripadvisor, and Visa, ahead of their first appearance in New York.

Meghan last visited New York in public in September 2019, when she went to the US Open tennis tournament to support Serena Williams, her best friend.

Serena and Amal Clooney, among Meghan’s closest friends, hosted a baby shower for her in February 2019 at New York’s opulent Mark Hotel, ahead of the birth of Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie.
