Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a primetime special one year after leaving their roles as senior royals to discuss what life was like behind palace walls as members of Britain’s most famous family.
During their conversation with the legendary talk show host, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a number of explosive allegations. One of the most concerning allegations is that a member of Harry’s family allegedly discussed their son’s skin colour before his birth. One royal had “concerns about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Meghan said she was told. Since the interview aired in March 2021, that claim has remained a hot topic of debate, and now Piers Morgan’s son has added his two cents.
Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle were friends, until they weren’t
Meghan’s nemesis over the years has been the former Good Morning Britain host. He’s made it a point to call the duchess and her husband out whenever they say something unpopular or make statements that contradict themselves. But there was a time when the two were friendly and even hung out together.
Morgan discussed how he and Markle became friends on Ireland’s The Late Late Show. He revealed that he began following Meghan and a few other Suits actors on social media in 2016. Following that, the future-duchess sent him a personal message thanking him for his assistance. According to Morgan, they began corresponding frequently, and Meghan informed him of her upcoming trip to London, where they met.
Morgan explained that he invited her to his local pub, where they spent hours talking over beers and dirty martinis. Morgan recalled Meghan saying after the night was over, “I had a great time.” Before getting into a cab, I said, “Love to see you again.” After hanging out with him, she took a taxi to a party where Prince Harry was present. She began dating the royal soon after, and Morgan never heard from his friend again.

In 2021, Morgan’s son Spencer, like his father, has taken aim at the Duchess of Sussex, claiming that her allegation that a senior royal was “concerned” about Archie’s skin colour is “divisive nonsense.” After The Sun columnist Jeremy Clarkson revealed what sources told him about the Sussexes’ accusation, Spencer expressed his thoughts on Twitter.
“This week, it was claimed that Harry and Meghan Markle chose not to name the ‘royal racist’ who wondered aloud what their baby would look like because it would be too damaging,” he wrote in his column (per The Express). “If my sources are correct, the real reason they didn’t name the person is because they aren’t a member of the royal family.”
Spencer posted a screenshot of Clarkson’s article and a quote from his father, writing, “You know who else wonders what a baby might look like?” Every single family on the planet. It’s all a load of nonsense.”
The alleged remark did not come from Queen Elizabeth, according to Prince Harry. Royal fans will never know if a senior member of the royal family did express concerns about Archie’s skin colour, and if so, who said it. Despite the fact that Prince Harry stated that he would never reveal who made the alleged remark, he did admit that it was not his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, or his late grandfather, Prince Philip.
The Duke of Sussex made it clear to Oprah that it was neither of them, she said.
“He didn’t reveal his identity to me, but he wanted to make sure that I knew and if I had the opportunity to share it that those conversations weren’t with his grandmother or grandfather,” the former talk show host told CBS This Morning co-anchor Gayle King.
