Prince Harry and Meghan Markle completed their royal duties in 2020 after stepping down as senior royals. The duke and duchess have signed several lucrative deals worth millions of dollars since relocating to America. One is with Netflix and Spotify to create content, and the other is with Penguin Random House for Prince Harry’s memoir.
When the Duke of Sussex announced the publication of a book, many people were surprised, and some wondered what else the prince, who spent his entire life working for The Firm, would reveal about Britain’s famous family. Although Harry isn’t the first duke to write about the Windsors after leaving the family, the royals have seen this film before. Here’s a list of other people who did the same thing.
1.Prince Harry’s comments on his upcoming memoir
After Penguin Random House announced the prince’s memoir would be released in 2022, describing it as “intimate and heartfelt,” Harry issued a statement elaborating on the upcoming project.
He said, “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born, but as the man I’ve become.” “I’m grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned so far in my life, and I’m looking forward to people reading a firsthand account of my life that is accurate and completely truthful.”
But Harry isn’t the only duke who has left the family and published a book as a result of his departure.
2.Another duke who left the royal family and wrote a book
You’ve probably heard all the comparisons between Prince Harry’s wife and Wallis Simpson, but the Duke of Sussex’s actions can also be compared to the man who was once known as King Edward VIII. His great-great uncle, Prince Edward, who later became the Duke of Windsor, left the royal life for the woman he loved, just like Harry. He, too, couldn’t stop talking about the life he was no longer a part of after doing so.
A King’s Story was the title of Edward’s book. The Duke of Windsor’s Memoirs and Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers discussed how long Edward waited to publish his memoirs compared to how long Harry has waited. Harry’s will be out two years after Megxit, whereas Edward’s took 15 years after his abdication in 1936.
On an episode of Pod Save the Queen, Myers said, “The former Duke of Windsor waited 15 years before spilling the beans on royal life, and Harry has waited barely 15 months, and I think that tells you an awful lot about his character” (per Express). “Rather than retiring into the sunset and pursuing a life of solitude, he is preoccupied with what others think of him and the narrative that is being painted about him. It contradicts everything we were told about their reasons for leaving the royal family.”
“It may be a ‘intimate and heartfelt’ memoir from his perspective, but I doubt it will be very heartfelt for the people who will no doubt be mentioned in the book — we’re talking about senior royals,” the journalist continued. We’ve already seen Harry make a number of hurtful remarks about Prince Charles [and] the way he raised his sons following their mother’s death.”
3.For another reason, the timing of Harry’s memoir has ruffled a lot of feathers.
For another reason, the timing of Harry’s book release has enraged some people on the other side of the Atlantic.
Because it’s set to be released in 2022, it’ll be available just as Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. Some have criticized the timing as disrespectful, and it is seen as yet another example of the Sussexes stealing the spotlight from the royal family.
I want to hear about Harry directly from Harry….IN PERSON. Yes, I understand him, why he thinks the way he does, and why he essentially is the way he is…..which is because of the numerous documentaries, interviews, and literature I’ve seen or read about the him and the Royal family. However, Anything else I learn about him I want to get directly from him.
