Meghan Markle left ‘horrified’ as angry royals refused to apologise to her

Meghan Markle discussed her mental health struggles as a senior royal during Meghan and Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. When she was pregnant with Archie in 2019, the royal claimed she felt suicidal and that the Royal Family did little to support her. Meghan was disappointed not to receive an apology from the Firm, according to royal expert Tom Quinn.

The Duchess was also “horrified” by the negative response to the tell-all interview, he said.

Mr Quinn said in the Channel 5 documentary Meghan at 40: The Climb to Power: “I believe she hoped for an apology, that they would call her and say, “We are truly sorry, we now see that we pushed you too far.”

“We should have acted differently and sat down as a family to talk about your mental health issues.

“I think she was shocked that the family’s reaction was so negative and that they didn’t respond in the way she had hoped.”

It comes as an updated version of Meghan and Harry’s controversial biography, Finding Freedom, will include an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

A new chapter covering recent royal events will be added to the book, which was first published last summer and heavily defended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

With publishers HarperCollins promising “behind the scenes” details, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand will delve deep into Meghan and Harry’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.
