The Sweet Connection You Didn’t Know Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Daughter Lilibet Has With Princess Charlotte

The birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 4, 2021, was recently announced, and much has been made about the baby’s name. Her middle name is, of course, after Harry’s late mother, and her first name is after Queen Elizabeth II, as “Lilibet” is a nickname given to her by those close to the monarch since she was a child.

But, while everyone is pointing to those connections, Lili shares a significant connection with her cousin Princess Charlotte that few people are aware of. Continue reading to learn what that is, as well as Prince George’s fictitious relationship with Meghan and Harry’s son, Archie.

Does Lilibet have a place in the line of succession like her cousins?

Many people wondered after Lili’s birth if she still had a place in the British throne line now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer senior royals and no longer live in the United Kingdom.

Because Prince Harry is a prince by birthright and the son of the future king, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s status has no bearing on their children’s places in the line. As a result, Lilibet follows in the footsteps of her father and older brother, Archie Harrison. Prince Harry follows his older brother Prince William and the Duke of Cambridge’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, in the line of succession. Archie is now in seventh place, and Lilibet is in eighth place.

Since Prince Philip’s death in April, Lili is Queen Elizabeth’s first great-grandchild. She isn’t, however, the first royal baby born in the United States. In 2013, the queen’s first cousin’s son, Lord Frederick Windsor, welcomed their eldest daughter, Maud, to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Maud is the 52nd in line to the throne.

Apart from being the only granddaughters of the future king, Charlotte and Lilibet Diana have a connection in their names. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter, is named after both her great-grandmother and late grandmother.

Charlotte’s first name is the feminine form of her grandfather’s name, Prince Charles. The Cambridges’ daughter has the same middle name as Kate’s sister, Pippa, who has Charlotte as her middle name.

Prince George made up a connection with Archie’s name

Charlotte’s older brother has a name in common with Lili’s older brother, though Prince George made it up. The Sun reported a few months before Archie’s birth on May 6, 2019, that George had been referring to himself as “Archie.”

When Prince George approached her to pet her dog, he said, “I’m called Archie,” with a big smile on his face, one woman recalled. “I’m not sure why he calls himself Archie, but kids often make up names, and I think it’s cute.”

It’s unclear whether George was aware of his aunt and uncle’s plans for their son’s name before the birth, or if the young prince simply liked the name Archie and decided to use it. Will and Kate’s youngest son, however, has a legitimate name connection to Archie. Prince Louis Arthur Charles is the full name of the third Cambridge child, and Archie is a nickname for Arthur.
